The lead article and two related DRG articles continued telling the story of a bureaucratic state government effort to control and ensure the financial stability of its 70 plus acute care hospitals through a program doomed to failure. The articles describe New Jersey’s efforts and how they adversely affected millions of citizens; especially the self-insured health and welfare fund members. This Fund Reporter packed issue is worth reading because it anticipated major changes in financing of hospitals (NYS hospital reimbursement law continues right of self-insured funds to discounting). A second series of articles dealt with cholesterol health issues; a problem then in its infancy as a major public health issue which has grown into the current crisis of weight, heart, cancer, diabetes and related diseases.
